Question by Sreerag M. · Aug 23, 2014 at 02:39 AM ·

Capture Events setting (system profile) need agent restart?

Does the capture event setting under System Profile -> General need agent/application process restart?

Capture Events

Toggles event capturing on/off for all dynaTrace Agents of this System Profile.

We are trying to disable event capture and instrumentation of the application without removing the agent configuration inside JVM start-up.

We tried to release license from the agent by disabling profile and restarting the collectors but the non licensed agent is still collecting and sending events to the collectors.

Also i see that after disabling event capture at profile level, dynatrace agents still send the cyclic data like JVM memory metrics.

Thats correct. This setting only effects Sensor Data but not the cyclic data.

Thanks Andi,

I think we will use a combination here, first we will disable the "event capture" to "tell" agents not to send data; after that we will disable the system profile and with collector restart we can release licenses.

This way i guess we can avoid load on collectors from non-licensed agents.

Hi Sreerag

This System Profile Global setting will "tell" every connected agent to stop sending data - a restart should not be required. The Agent itself is still active and will still consume the license it acquired when it launched.

Does this remove all overhead from those sensors?
