Well - either that or built-in into the product. certain things just make sense to provide it. We already have some internal implementations to keep track of these numbers. So - it should not be too hard to do. But - engineering always needs to weigh the effort vs benefit. Thats why we have the RFE process which we use to figure out how many people would actually need a certain feature built-into the product.

The problem is that since .NET is licensed per Windows OS instance (WOSI) and not per Agent, it is very difficult to determine how many agents have been used.

You can open the server settings dialog. there you will find an overview of all Licenses you have as part of your current license -> License Tab
Additionally you can click on the Collectors Tab that shows you how many agents are currently connected from each technology type.
Its not a perfect overview of what is still left - but it is a start
