Setup Alerts to spark incidents for APM

Hello,

I hope this is the last topic for this week. It is still in talk setting up alert to spark incidents for APM. Are we talking about threshold or email set up for dynatrace? When should we setup? What does it require to set up?
Please, feel free to make any comments, suggestions.
Thanks.

Hi Sofwan,

In a nutshell, you set up thresholds on measures, which trigger incidents when they are breached, and the incidents can be configured to (among many other things) send emails and/or SMTP traps when they are triggered.

I would start by looking at the Incidents dashlet.  There are out of the box incidents you can view and edit to see how they work.

Create or use an existing measure, set a threshold in upper sever for it, chart it and turn on the "Show Thresholds" setting in the table.  This will let you see the measure behavior over time and how often it breaches the upper severe threshold.

Next, create an incident for this measure, and then create an "Incident Chart" that will show a traffic light indicator of the incident status.

After you are happy with the incident (it fires when needed, but not too frequently) it is a good time to turn on the alerting.

Of course you should also search the documentation for these topics as you go as there is much more to this topic than this summary covers.

HTH,

dave
