Business Transaction for Measuring Count of Unique IPs

Hi,

In order to find out how many real or active users we have compared to the number of accounts, I'm trying to figure out how to create a business transaction that can give me either of:

  1. the count of unique IPs over time
  2. the count of unique VisitTags over time

We have UEM enabled so I would like to use that data to create the BT.

Thanks in advance

Micke

Hi

I think what you can do is to create a Visit-based BT that splits by IP or using the same meausre you use for your Visitor Tag. Then you can chart the Visit Count Measure of that BT over time.

The only challenge with that approach is that - depending on the number of different end users & IPs you really have - may end up with too many split values for that BT which could become a problem for the performance warehouse. I am talking about thousands of users - then this could become a problem.

If you do have that many users on the system you could still use the BT - however - instead of using dynaTrace to split by IP and store it in the Performance Warehouse I suggest you take a look at our Real Time Business Transactions Feed. Feeding data to an external solution that can then calculate the unique number for you

Thanks for the thorough reply, I'll give it a try without storing in the warehouse just to try it out. I don't really know the exact user count but it is more than 1000 and in the future it will be more than 5K.

Kind regards

Micke
