Migration from 6.1 to 6.2

Hi,

is it possible to move the session data from the 6.1 directory into the 6.2 directory?

Our problem is, that we dont have space for migrating the full session data. Or is there an option in the migration tool to move the data instead of copying.

Thanks & Greetings

Jörg

I pointed 6.2 to our old 6.0 session data - but I don't see any of the data

From the pic below, dynaTrace is starting to collect data after I start the new service, however I dont see any of the previous data

Hi Richard

Just double checking if you upgrade from 6.0 or 6.1. There is a known issue when migrating from 6.0 to 6.2 as described in the latest Tech Alert: Technical Alerts dynaTrace DATM

Richard and Andi,
the issue is a PWH / DB issue from 6.0 or earlier to 6.2, where a table does not get altered right, so I think the session store should not be affected and also generally no problem from 6.1 to 6.2.

Edit from the quick shot before:
Richard, just confirmed these are PWH data and you ran into the 1238 build issue.
Please contact support. They will give you a script that fixes it.
Thanks
G.

It worked. After I moved the sessions and the class cache out of the old installation dir, the migration tool has migrated the configurations.

Then I moved cache and sessions to the new installation.

Hi Jörg,
the migration tool does not do anything with the session data (or the PWH). Just point the new Dynatrace Server to the location. (Setttings menu > Dynatrace Server... > Storage)

Session data are backwards compatible.
If you can, back them up. If you have a backup you are on the totally safe side, but there may be other options. I would need to ask engineering if you could revert to 6.1 without a restore if anything goes wrong. If there are no no 6.2 session files yet this should be no problem.

Hope that helps
G.

Hi,

sounds great. I will try this in the next days. We have nightly backups and if there is a big problem we can roll back with a minimal loss of data.

Thanks
