Windows Service Status Monitor Plugin

Hi Guy's

I need some advice ASAP please, I have configured the following with a Dynatrace v5.6 Implementation.

  • My Monitor created to monitor a process on exchange servers (1 on each server)  which all works okay, however, when creating an incident either using a value of 0 or 1 as per the monitor plugin page “serviceStatus: If the service is running, the measure will yield 1, otherwise 0” does not work.

  •  This only triggers an incident when I change the 1 value to a 2 and the 0 value to a 1, which is obviously not correct then?

Hi Scott

As long as the Collector stays as a Windows server and the user that starts the collector has access to the monitored services, this should work.  The Server platform does not matter.

I have a question about the Service Monitor plugin, we had it working when the dt server was windows, we are in the process of moving the dt server to RHEL. Should it work? If yes then how should it be "setup" the collector service account needs admin access to the "service" being monitored like before or?  Thanks

I think the problem is your "aggregation" setting. You have set it to "Count" - which means that the Incident doesnt use the actual value of the serviceStatus measure - BUT - it uses the "Number of Measurements" (=Count) it has in that time period. Thats why it doesnt work.

In your case I would change it to "min". Why? Because you want the incident to trigger if the min value within the evaluation timeframe (10s) is <= 0

Give it a shot and let me know if it works. Also let me know if you need additonal clarification on how this works

Can you also attach a screenshot from your Incident definition?
