The business transaction defined is reporting the purepath response time as opposed to purepath duration. The response time is misleading due to the fact the code calls out to several services. Here's an example of the purepath for the business transaction in question. It is derived from a URL pattern match and a method measure.
The duration is what we would want to use as far as alerting and performance goes since that is what the user experiences. I'd also like to see the out of the box "application overview" dashboard report durations. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim,
You can add "PurePath Duration" to the "Calculate Results" section (middle section) of the Business Transaction dialog. This will allow you to chart and alert based on PP Duration for this BT. It is not currently possible to have it show duration in the Application Overview, but if you want a now vs. then type of chart you can use the Dual-Axis chart with a time offset of 1, 3, or 7 days for one axis as of dynaTrace 5.6.
Hope that helps,
Rick B
I'm getting a warnig message when I add the duration to an already defined BT. If I set the BT up as new, everything appears to work.
I really want this stuff to be available in the application overview dashboard even if I get response times as opposed to durations.. Can I reset the baseline to make sure the data shows up? I find the warning message confusing since it says it will no longer contribute to the "Application Overview". That's scary.
I created a new BT just like this instead of modifying an existing, which is what I'm doing here and I don't get errors so I'm confused. I would prefer to keep existing BT names.
Thanks,
Jim
Unfortunately this just isn't possible currently, though I believe just as yours there are many applications where duration makes more sense than response time, and it would make a good Request for Enhancement.
RFE - Allow for auto-baselining of more measures
I've gone ahead and created an RFE above, please upvote and comment your support, including your use case (you could just link back here).
