I am trying to get an informal poll of other Dynatrace customers comfort in doing hot sensor placements in their production environment. We have used it in the past, but there is always that fear factor of doing it against your active environment in case there is a hiccup.
So do you use hot sensor placement regularly? Under what context? I.e. do you get an change management ticket before doing it or is it considered operational and no official notice/documentation needed?
Thanks,
Erik

In my experience it depends on how robust the application infrastructure of a customer is. I have seen cases where they did a HSP frequently – citing if a server would have issues the load balancer would take it out anyways and restart it so little risk. Others treat HSP and all configuration changes like any other artifact that needs to be pushed to prod (test it first, then do it during a downtime window). Hard to tell the split on who does it and who avoids it - it also depends on the severity and urgency of the sensor being placed.
