Question by matt S. · Nov 29, 2012 at 02:19 AM · production

What is the best way to monitor performance enhancements over time?

I'm working on optimizing certain pages in our website. I'd like to use dynatrace to show improvements over time. What would be the best way to achieve this?

I'm guessing I can filter pure paths based on the path and do some before and after comparisons. Use some charts to show differences in various measures. I don't have UEM at the moment so I'm only considering server side improvements.

Can someone give me some direction & resources?
Thanks

Hi Matt,

Your line of thinking is right on!

For each of the pages you are optimizing create a measure for each. Once these pages are a measure you can chart them over time.

If you create business transactions for each of these measures you will more options specially around using as filters in numerous dashlets as well as the new dashboards introduced in 4.2.

Help Links  -  Usage of Business Transactions

Webinars   -   Go to the dynaLearn Webinars page and look under Past Webinars and then Business Transactions and Dashboards.  There are four webinars focused on Business Transactions.

You can also save off purepaths or from the web requests dashlet for the pages of interest for before and after. I would make sure to grab a time frame of heavy use. This will average out the outliers when comparing with summary dashlets but also give you detail data if needed to show where time is being spent.

Hope this helps.

Mike
