Question by Vijay V. · Aug 21, 2015 at 06:25 PM ·

Dynatrace with Eclipse and tomcat

Is it possible to setup dynatrace without collector and dynatrace server.

I am trying to setup more like a profiling tool at desktop using agent and client.

1. Do I need to install agent in each dev machine. If so what agent should I install. All developers use windows machines

2. How to hook Dynatrace client to tomcat JVM. Do I need Dynatrace server or Dynatrace collector

3. Do I need any license in this process. If so details on licenses please

Hi

to use dynatrace like a profiler you will need the trial edition as suggested above. The trial can be extended indefinitely free of charge for developers (http://www.dynatrace.com/en/freemiums/personal-lic...).

The installation would have to be local only, so each developer will need their own dynatrace server. You should be able to use the embedded collector if you don't want a stand alone collector.

You can deploy up to 5 agents the way you would do for any JVM.

The above link will show you which features are available.

I hope this helps.

1. You would need to install Java agents for Windows on all the dev machine.

2. You don't hook up the client to the tomcat JVM. You hook up the dynatrace agent in the tomcat JVM and the agent then sends the data to the dynatrace collector and eventually to the dynatrace server.

3. You would need licenses for this. You need one license per JVM. You can try the free trial from Dynatrace here.

For more information on using dynatrace, you can watch these youtube videos that go in depth about the tool and setting it up
