12.3.1 Installation of manuals?

Hi

When you install the CAS (or the ADS), there is a stage where you are given the option to install manuals.

No matter whether you point to the root of the ISO image, the \DOCS folder or the \DOCS\EN folder (where the PDF's actually are) you will get an error:

How is it supposed to work?

+1 to including the manuals on the media/downloads.  most of my customers (being federal gov) don't have internet access (or very limited) on their environments.

We updated the 12.3.1 ISO in the DC RUM 12.3.1 Downloads and now the manuals installation works as expected.

When it comes to easy access to the doc in the secure environments, despite of the main focus moving onto the Community, we keep this use case in mind and are working on the best possible solution to satisfy this requirement.. Thanks for your feedback on this.

I 100% agree with Robert

About 25% of the installs are in secure or locked down environment and it's even hard to get things like Flash or JAVA installed and updated because it's so hard to to have outside access.

Ideal would be if the manuals were installed and then you could choose to have either the installed manuals or the online stuff.

If I'm not mistaken, Micorsoft help works in that way - at least to a degree (lightbulb)

This does not help users and sys admins who have no direct access to the internet to access manuals due to the platform being installed into a secure network.

Removing the manuals introduces extra steps and requirements on users.

It would pay to relook at this decision to continue to support these installations.

Product documentation is available on-line in html form and also in PDF forms for offline view.

Prior installation the PDFs can be downloaded, for ex. the installation guides.

During the CAS or ADS installation, the installation program asks for location of the documentation (PDFs), so if you have downloaded them from community first and saved locally, the CAS will copy them and provide access to it from within the Help menu.

The "docs" folder is also present in the Installation DVD (ISO image).

2. The CAS or ADS does not need Internet access for the end-user to read the documentation online (smile)

It is enough for the user workstation to have access to Internet (almost always the case). Then the links to documentation under CAS "Help" will work fine on user workstation. It won't only work if you try to access the docs online from the CAS server itself (remote) console.

It's a bug. Since 12.3, the Release Notes moved exclusively to the Community and we stopped publishing the PDF version. Unfortunately, one of the validation rules is still to look for *RelNotes* in the folder. We'll fix it in 12.3.2. For now, the workaround is to place an empty DCRUM_RelNotes.pdf file in the docs folder to be used as a source.

The installator uses a set of validation rules to make sure that what it copies is actually our doc set. I'll check it with the RelEng to see what happened here.
