Question by Sandeep D. · Sep 16, 2015 at 06:48 PM · dashboard business transaction

Can we use standard incident rules like "response time degraded" for specific transactions?I want to create custom dashboard and add this to it

@Kyle Kowalski I have created a dashboard with measures(Time/Response Time) already added for specific transaction.Using the measure and corresponding business transaction,I created dashboard showing response time(1 minute granularity adjustable),transaction count and error rate.I want to add incident dashlet along with the dashlets on dashboard which can alert if anything among the baseline measures gets changed (may be response time /response time for slowest transactions and error rate) .I want to use standard severe incident rules for custom /specific transaction(s) which can send mail or store transaction.I can do this for incident rule I created.I want to use it for standard incident rules.

Hi Sandeep,

I think I have a clearer understanding of this but I have a few questions.

Are you trying to add the BT to the default alert?

What information are you gaining from the incident dashlet and do you just want the dashlet to show data in regards to just the BT you set up?

For the default incident you want to also set up different actions for it?

Best,

Kyle

@Kyle Kowalski Correct.I am trying to have all the metrics needed for analysing this transaction behaviur at one place. The value I gain is the action I take on standard degradations .I can analyze and change my action later on.Considering there are lot many transactions flowing through systems and some may fail and may not be critical,I want to filter out noise

@Kyle Kowalski For default, alert the existing actions are ok ,I just want to take them on specific transaction, not all

Hi Sandeep,

There are a few things that you need to do to achieve this dashboard you are looking at. How I would try and set this up is.

First set up a BT to have only the pages that you want to start to baseline.

Seconded you need to add that BT you are using to the monitoring dashboard (Requirements: no more than 1 splitting past application) This will start to baseline this BT and should add it to the response time degraded incident.

Third on your dashboard, add a BT filter to the incident dashlet and that should only show you the incident on that BT.

I'm not sure how you would selectively send out alerts on different transactions for this other than putting ONLY the BTs you want to be alerted on into the baselining system.

HTH,

Kyle

Hi Sandeep, Can you clarify what you are looking to achieve with this incident. You can just add an incident chart to a dashboard and they specify the incident rule which will then show as a traffic light

HTH,

Kyle
