Question by Gerald M. · Nov 05, 2015 at 03:09 PM · business transaction

Business Transaction - Aggregation = Percentile

Hi,

Is there some way to use percentiles in Business Transactions?

I expected to find the same entries as for the Charts.

But there is nothing like percentiles within the Aggregate options for BT results.

Is there also a plausible explanation why it is not possible?

thx,

Gerald

Hi,

Business transaction is evaluated per purepath, that said the measures used in BT is also evaluated for one purepath at a time.

There are certain measures where the aggregation has no effect.

e.g. aggregation for purepath response time in purepath BT doesnt have any effect (any aggregation is ok)

Hope this helps.

%-tiles are aggregated hourly. Change the chart to longer timeframe and you will be %-tile.

Hi Vinh,

1. I wanted to visualize that it is not working with self selected result measure. It is working with the purepath response time.

That is also what is confusing me, for the Purepath Response Time I don't have to select any aggregation measure. But what to select for the Result to ensure the percentiles are calculated?

Well, the point is yesterday i thought I will only get percentiles for the buitlin measure Response Time. But it seems like I just had too less data to see the percentiles. Or i had a mistake within the dashboard. I built a new one today and finally i see the percentiles. Thank you anyways.

2. BT works perfectly without the filter...

Oh one more thing, the above assumes the BT is created and collecting data. BT would not work if there is no filter, which is your second screenshot.

By default, the BT is calculating %-tile.

To see if BT %-tile is enabled (and it should be by default), go to System Profile > Measures > Business Transactions > your BT > PurePath Response Time > Edit button > Details tab.

Here are few best practice tips for BT,

1. You do not need Web Request Response Time in Calculate Results because 'Response Time and Count' is selected in your second screenshot. This is duplicate data.

2. While you're in the Details tab to see %-tile, it is best to select the application which the BT belongs to.

'Web Request Response Time' in BT calculate results will yield different result than the default response time selected in BT, this is not duplicate data.

Web Request Response Time with aggregation 'avg' will give a measure for average of all web request response time in each purepath. And different aggregation will give different results.
