Current status of DB agent / monitoring recommendations for Managed

I have anecdotally heard that there is a "DB Agent" for Dynatrace Managed, but I have not been able to find any reference to this in the product documentation.

One older forum post (from April of this year) stated that "There's nothing like the DB agent that was in AppMon at the moment". Is that still the case or is there now a DB agent? Another older forum entry suggested that there may be some DB plugins available, but the only plugins I can find are for AppMon.

Are there any Oracle or MS SQL Server monitoring plugins for Managed? My final question is whether or not Dynatrace would advise customers to install only an infrastructure agent on a DB server. I came across one forum post in which somebody asks this question but no answer was provided.

The forum entry provided a nice summary of why it would be a good idea to deploy a OneAgent on a DB server, but most of the reasons suggested would be achievable via an infrastructure only agent. The entry I refer to here is:

Perhaps you mean Database Insights (Oracle only at the moment), more information here:

For other database types, you will just need to stick with the DB plugins at the moment or write your own one.

I managed to obtain some more clarification, so am sharing these here in case anybody else has similar questions:

  1. The recommendation
is to deploy agents in infra-only mode to Database servers
  2. For MS SQL Servers use can be made of the MS SQL plugin in conjunction with an infra-only agent on the DB
    server.
  3. For Oracle the “DB
Agent” is not actually an agent, but is a component that we would enable on the
security gateway server to pull metrics from the DB. It would be
run on-demand by a user via a “live view” button. This feature is not currently
available, but should be available sometime in Q4 2018 or Q1 2019 as part of the EAP.
