Question by Pankaj K. · Jan 13, 2012 at 11:12 PM ·

Question on how to create measures for inter-tier transaction time.

We have a WPF application that is run by our users in 20+ offices around the world. They have the agents installed on their machines. We have multiple collectors set up to capture the purepaths from specific regions (e.g. Europe, Australia). I wanted to create measures to capture inter-tier response time between the users and our application servers in the US. I wanted to break out the measures by region, so I can track the time spent between the client and server tiers.

Can you give me some guidance on how to accomplish this?

Hi

I assume your WPF application uses a small set of Web Services to call your backend services?

There is no measure that gives you Inter-Tier Time - but - basically the Inter-Tier time can be measured by looking at the Exec-Time of your WebService Client call. The Exec-Time is the time that is spent by the Client-Call, excluding the server-side time -> therefore: As close as possible to Inter-Tier

Now - if you want to measure this time per IP I suggest creating a Business Transactions
a) returns the Exec Time of your Web Service Client class (Evaluation Measures)
b) Splits by IP Address

I think this should work
