Collector Status

recently added a new collector, status is "Restart Pending" even after a restart. Any insight to what is going on?

Well the webex was fun but unfortunately we didn't resolve anything.

As a summary for this forum thread:

  • there was trouble creating our collector PID file in /var/run, but we fixed that and it didn't make things better
  • The Sun Hotspot JVM is giving a warning that it couldn't reserve shared memory, but then reports that it's up and happy.
  • The collector seems to come up and work fine.
  • This collector was created by copying settings of another collector. So we created a brand new one and had the same issue.
  • Finally: I tried running the command "./dtcmd.sh -listcollectors" and we found that you're not able to communicate from the collector Linux box to the dT server using this command (port 8020 is not available).

My bet is something environmental, perhaps even on the server (which we didn't have access to). Best bet is to open up a support ticket and see what they say. Looking forward to hearing what it was.

Rob

simple fix. I just overlooked it for all the trees in the forest. Version mismatch, new collector, old server. Brought the server up to patch level to match and all is fine.

Did you try closing and re-opening the client? I have seen sometimes where that Collector view under the dynaTrace Server Settings menu might not actually be refreshing. Do the collector logs indicate any issue?

Not alot of info here, but here are some thoughts:

  • Did you do a "refresh" of  the display in the status dialog?
  • Did  you try manually restarting the collector? Meaning:
    • if it's a Windows-based collector recycling the service manually
    • If it's a Linux/UNIX-based collector stopping the process and restarting the process

Try that and see if that clears up your issue.

Thx Rob. Yes, I refreshed, and yes manually stopped and started the Linux proc. No Luck!
