We have seen a few occurrences of an agent disconnecting based on an INFO class error message of agent unregistered from the Collector, luckily the agent reconnects in a minute or so. It happens time and again, what is the root cause and underlying issue here?

Assuming that the Agent process itself doesn't crash and restart itself - the only explanation I can give you is a potential problem on your network.
First I would double check your agent log files. There you would see if the Agent keeps running or if it actually gets restarted. If you see multiple agent log files you know that the problem is actually on the agent that keeps recycling.
If that is not the case then it sounds like it is a network problem. Do you have any proxies/firewalls between your agent and collector?
