Transaction flow and External Service or Domainless

Hello,

dynaTrace 4.2 can now display a box called External Services (or Domainless) in a transaction flow. This new feature is really nice to display a call to an extern service which is not instrumented by dynaTrace.

I have 2 questions about this:

  • Is there a way to display a specific box based on a combination Host + TCP Port (and not only Host).
  • How could dynaTrace display a specific box on any type of TCP/IP requests, like LDAP request or proprietary TCP/IP request?

Thanks

No this is not a bug. It happens when your JVM sends an HTTP request where the host is invalid or unknown. Go to PurePath Tree to retrieve this request.

In my sample below, we can see the request http://$(QT_HOST_MAS_GIN)/... which is invalid, so dT displays in the transaction flow "Unknown host"

What does it mean when the "Domainless" icon says unknown host in the transaction flow diagram? Because mine does show any information when I open up the web request dashlet.
Is this a bug?

Jerome-

With the 4.2 release, the only supported external calls that can be visualized on the transaction flow diagram are web service calls and messaging calls.

All external service calls will show up by related host name or IP. If your service calls use the same host but different ports, you can right click and drill down the web services dashlet to get more specific information about each call, including the port.

Hope this helps,

Kevin
