Question by Lu, X. · Feb 19, 2013 at 07:01 PM ·

why server side java method details are not showing even the java agent is enabled?

Hi, I have installed dynatrace 5.0 server and client locally, and then installed the dynatrace java agent (java 6, tomcat application server) and deployed my tomcat web application on another remote machine (windows NT). my application started successfully and I can visit the application (localhost:8080 ) from the remote machine. I saw the agent connectted with the server, I saw all the java classes are collected by the collector. In the local dynatrace client, I saw the agent connected in the agent details screen and all the deployed sensors in the agent's "deployed Sensors". I even searched a particular java class that I used often, and it's there and has been intialized. Then I place a request from my tomcat application ( the whole application is mainly ajax based), and I expected to see the corresponding java class is called and detailed information should be seen in the dynatrace client. For example, which java class is called, which method is called, the time for the method execution etc. However, no matter how may ajax requests I placed from my application, there is just noting showing in the client. I did check that I put all the proper sensors for java and they are all active. So here is my question:

1, where exactly I can see the server-side java method invocation details in the dynatrace client side?
2, do I need to generate a application in my system profile in order to collect those java information?
3, is it because it's a ajax web application in the front, that's why the back-end server side data is not collected ?

4, where I can fire a support ticket so that I can get suport help.

I am a compuware employee by the way, I expect there is an internal support portal for employees only so that I can get help faster.

Thanks in advance.

Xiaofan

this problem has been solved. Thank Richard J. Boyd from Detroit headquarters who helped me a lot. it turns out that the license I used doesn't support remote agent. So Richard generated a new licence ( with remote agent enabled) for me and I installed, right away, all the java method invocations are seen in the dynatrace client side.

Thanks again, Richard!
