Question by David J. · Mar 11, 2013 at 08:35 PM ·

Dashboard cloning and drill-in questions

Use case:

I have a small team that supports 160ish application installations on 14 servers.  We are building an "alerting" dashboard that indicates issues at any of the server/app combinations.  We would like to drill into the dashlet alert indicators (traffic light chart) and go from the alerting dashboard to an analytical dashboard (graphs, details, etc) for the specific component indicating issues.

There are two "classes" of dashlet required, and two classes of dashboard required.  I need 14 of the dashlet class that monitors servers, and 160ish of the dashlet class that monitors apps.  So far it appears that this is viable provided the top level dashboard is well organized in a tabular manner, and is limited to alerting only.

I am relatively inexperienced with Dynatrace at this point.

Question:

Is there an easy way to clone dashlets?

Is there a way to pass the filter conditions from the dashlet to the dashboard that it is invoking?  Alternatively, is there an easy way to clone and tweak dashboards?

Thanks in advance,

David Johnson

Copy/Paste for dashlets works like a charm. It will save me MANY hours of fumbling around.

I didn't quite express my question about drilldown and dashboards correctly. It appears that the behavior used by the "Show in Dashboard -> New dashboard" is what I expect, but I want to apply that behavior to a dashboard that is preconfigured with charts and "of interest" metrics.

I think I am starting to grasp how this works. If not, I'll post again in tomorrow morning.

Thanks.

You can link dashboards to a dashlet so that you get a drill down option to these existing dashboards. Check out the dashlet properties for this feature

Pretty much everything in dynaTrace can be Copy/Pasted - same is true for dashlets. Click on the header of a dashlet that you want to clone. Ctrl+C -> Ctrl+V -> that will create a copy of it.

Charts also allow you to "promote" the charts timeframe to the dashboard. There are several toolbar buttons in the chart dashlet. One of them allows you to change the timeframe as well as apply the current timeframe filter to the dashboard
