Dear community,
we have dynaTrace up and running. In the client (5.5.0) we set up a bunch of applications. We also have several Dashboards, each related to one of the application. The strangest thing happened a few weeks ago: Opening the client showed nothing. Looking at the Monitoring tab we do have all our applications, but none have data. Clicking on an application will show different amount of Business Transactions - all without data.
Interesting enough: opening a Dashboard shows us, that we do get data. A Dashboard may contain things like World Map, Visits, User Actions, Transaction Flow and Errors. Every tab is full with data.
But Monitoring (overview) and the Applications are empty.
As far as we could reconstruct - nobody has changed anything. We opened the client and it was empty. Does anyone recognize this behavior? A freshly installed 5.5.0 client gets the same emptiness.
Cheers

Hi
I have seen a similar problem twice. This was caused by having too many automatically detected applications (100+), at this point the baseline engine stops working and you get no data on the monitoring dashboards. I found a clue in the server logs where it told me why it stopped.
You should see if that's the case by going to the profile-> applications and check if there is a very long list of applications in the table. (check all your profiles just in case)
To fix, I deleted all the automatically detected applications (profile->applications) and mapped them explicitly. I then turned off automatic detection. You will have to restart the server to flush the data out of memory. This could be why a restart sometimes helps because it frees up memory but it will stop again when the applications are detected.
Please map the applications manually carefully because many might fall under the "default" category if not defined.

@Andreas Grabner We are having this problem now on 5.6. Going to restart the server. I am guessing its a defect in dynaTrace that is still not resolved.
I would check the server log file for any issues. It is strange if this happens out of the blue. If you are running on 5.6 I hope you also run on the latest fixpacks that we have made available for 5.6?
Hi Pankaj,
Can you please check the web page request btm inside the built-in btms, whether it is showing red cross because of high splitting value. In my case due to that i was getting blank monitoring screen.
Best Regards,
Jaydatt

Thanks for letting us know about this. Would be interesting if anybody else has this problem on 5.6?

I currently have this same issue. It started soon after I changed the applications under one of the system profiles. We are currently running 5.5.
After restarting the server the application monitoring view and host health dashboards are working. Thanks

I had a similar behavior right now. No metrics under the Application Monitoring view, but if I opened the BT manually there was data. There was no indication in the log files either.
My work around is to RESTART the SERVER. After the restart, the BT's were picked up.
This behavior started when I changed my PW, just curious to know if any one had a similar change leading to this problem?

Hi,
We have exactly the same problem : a set of business transactions, with data in dashboard, but always empty in monitoring.
We use 5.6.5840 version.

If you haven't applied this update FixPack (build 5301) you could try it. We had similar issues and after this update on 5.5.0 we haven't seen the issue.

Hi Andreas,
thanks for the answer. Unfortunately the Monitoring Dashboard is still empty. I've attached a screenshot that will describe my problem in a better way. The BTs seem to be checked and should deliver data. Again: Clicking on an Application's Dashboard we will get data. But not in the overview.
Cheers
k - thanks for checking and thanks for the screenshot. Can you find any indication of a problem in either the client log or the server log file?
if there are errors you may want to open a support ticket

Hi
The Application Overview (=Monitoring Dashboard) shows data from those Business Transactions that are selected for monitoring & baselining. So - what could have happened is that somebody removed these Business Transactions from that dashboard on accident?
you can double check that by opening the "Select monitored Business Transactions". This will show you the list of all BTs and those that are selected for the AppOverview. You can find this menu option when you are on the Monitoring->Applications tab. There is a little "processing wheel" that will open a drop down menu.
