Question by alexandre.leveille@sunmedia.ca · Nov 25, 2013 at 11:00 PM ·

Why connected agents don't show in Agent Breakdown

Hi,

I've noticed that one of my profile isn't showing any information anymore.

In the Agent Overview screen I see all the agents I expect for the profile and they're all mapped to the System Profile and the right Agent Group. However, if I go to the Agent Breakdown screen in the System Profile, no agent is showing.

I tried restarting the server but it didn't help.

Any idea?

Sincerely,
Alexandre

Hi, thanks for following up.

Yes we are expecting to see live data coming in, and yes they are connected when looking at the Agents Overview.

Refreshing the Agents Overview dashlet, I also see that the Event Count keeps going up, so these agents are sending events to their collector. However!: the Total Pure Path Count for the problematic agents is steady at 0. I really don't think this is normal, isn't it?

Why would the uploads events not be collacted into PurePaths?

One possibility is that there are no entry points configured.  dynaTrace needs to know which event starts a PurePath.  Out of the box, we set the Servlet/ASP.Net sensor and other Web related sensors to "active and start purepaths" to define them as entry points.  Sometimes custom sensors need to be configured that way to pick up non-web based transactions.  You should verify that there are the correct sensors set to "active and start purepaths" in your Agent Groups.

thanks,

Hi Alexandre,

There are a couple of explanations for this.  The events can include cyclic measures like Memory utilization and other health metrics.  Also PurePath count I think only increments for PurePaths which start on that agent.

There are a couple of issues that may cause this to happen.  If you can confirm there are no changes to the system the best way for you to get an answer is to open a support ticket at https://go.compuware.com/ and uploading a support archive. (Getting Support)

Hi Andreas!

I now realize that the title of my post perhaps wasn't the best.

The main problem with my profile is that I don't see any information. Transaction flow is empty, Error dashlet is empty, etc.

In the profile configuration the Capture Events and Performance Warehouse Access* are checked. And for each of the agent groups, they are set to Capture Events as well, and they have sensor deployed and active.

Performance Warehouse Access was unchecked, which wasn't normal so I rechecked it, expecting data to start flowing in.

As far as I know, this profile shouldn't have changed, but obviously did (I'm still poking around the office to see if anyone changed something). I tried showing information for the last 365 days, but nothing comes up as well.

Thanks for the clarification. Now - are you expecting to see live data coming in from your currently connected agents? If that is the case I would first check if agents are connected - this can be done through the Agent Overview Dashboard.

If you want to look at historical data but dont see any you need to check whether the data is actually in the Performance Warehouse. It is "odd" that the checkbox was unchecked. If it was  unchecked for a while you may not see historical data for the period it was unchecked.

If you need to get this resolved quickly you may also want to reach out to our support team by opening a ticket

Hmm - are you capturing PurePaths for these Agents? The Agent Breakdown Dashlet analyzes PurePaths and provides the breakdown based on these PurePaths - so - if you dont have any at all - or - if you have a specific filter set on that dashboard where you added the Agent Breakdown you may not see anything.

If you just want the list of Agents you can also try the Agent or Status Overview Dashlet which is not based on PurePaths
