Question by Ivan K. · Feb 04, 2014 at 04:09 PM ·

use the REST server api for additional items

I'm working on pulling over some data from dynaTrace by using the dynaTrace REST server api (version 5.5).

I was wondering if it's possible to:

  1. add dashlets to a dashboard programmatically?
  2. query for a VMware uuid?  I can see dynaTrace picks up that the process is running on a VMware VM
  3. retrieve the failure count for each business transaction?  Currently the "Failed %" column is the only indicator of failures, meanwhile the Functional Health dashlet seems to be able to provide the aggregated count of all failures
  4. uniquely identify the various "External Service" entries in the Transaction Flow.  The data comes back as simply "External Service@xyz_host" and I'm concerned that two External Services running on the same host are going to report the same way (even though potentially dynaTrace has the ability to identify them uniquely)

Thanks

Hi Ivan

Here are the answers

  1. Unfortunately this is not possible. you can only query data from existing dashboards
  2. Have you tried the Agent Rest Interface, e.g: http://localhost:8020/rest/management/agents -> that gives you an overview of all connected agents including OS, Hypervisor, ...
  3. Every Business Transaction automatically provides a "Failed Count" measure. So - best way is to create a DAshboard with a Chart that shows this Failed Count MEasure of the BT you are interested in. Then query this dashboard via REST
  4. External Services will be tricky. We identify them e.g: by looking at the URLs of Web Requests. So - you could query the Web Request Dashlet and then take these URLs.

I also want to point you to another option of getting data out of dynaTrace. Check out Real Time Business Transactions Feed
