Question by Juan G. · Mar 28, 2014 at 01:20 PM ·

Can I define the Logical Structure: "Service -> Application -> Agent Group " on dynaTrace ?

Hi guys.

A Client of us has the following Logical Structure on his Company where the "Service" Object is on the Top:

Service

   Application

For example:

Service "eCommerce"

      Application "Sales"

           www.sales.com

      Application "Shipping"

           www.shipping.com

He wants to design some Dashboards to get results by "Service" and wants to drill-down to the Application, etc ... up to the PurePaths

As far as I know the Logical Structure on dynaTrace is the following:

System Profile (Normally 1 for each Company and for common for all Applications)

     Application

         Agent Group 1

         Agent Group N

Just as an approach I´m thinking on this one:

System Profile (1 for each Service)

     Application 1

          Agent Group 1

          Agent Group N

     Application N

         Agent Group

          Agent Group 1

          Agent Group N

but I´m not sure if it would be correct.

Please can you tell me if is there any logical way on dynaTrace to organize the information to be able to get the Logical Structure our Client wants ?

Thank you very much in advance.

Hi. Your assumption and knowledge about dynaTrace is correct. The System Profile is the top in our hierchary.

You could go with that approach - HOWEVER - you need to understand the limitations with that approach.

a) If Services call Services it means you need Cross- System Profile PurePaths. This is not supported

b) Its going to be a bit harder to build dashboards that show data from all services combined as this data comes from different SysProfiles. It is doable - but just a bit more configuration effort
