Web Server Agent - IIS6 - Difference between dtagent.dll and dtiisagent6.dll ?

Hi Folks,

Hi want to ask what is the differencs between those 2 dll when installing and instrumenting IIS 6 32bits.

I´ve seen that dtagent.dll is used from dynaTrace 5.0 and so on. But why there is the dtiisagent6.dll even when you installed 5.0 or 5.5? why keep a dll that was used by dynaTrace 4.0 on 5.5 version?

Yes-  but you would loose any bootstrap capabilities. the "Boot Strap" agent first connects to the collector and downloads updated versions of the dll in case there is a new version available due to an upgrade, e.g: upgrading to a new dynaTrace version or installing a FixPack. Thats why YOU WANT the dtagent.dll in there and not the specific dll as you would loose the automatic update capabilities of our agents

I see.

So, since we have iis6, could we not point directly to dtiisagent6.dll on isap filter?

Hi Renato

dtagent.dll is our "bootstrap agent". That means that this is our core agent that will verify which actual IIS version you are running and will then load the respective version specific dll, e.g: dtiisagent6.dll if it is for IIS6.

Makes sense?

Andi
