I'm having a hard time getting the Licesne count Plug-in to work. This is the first plug-in i've attempted to install so i'm sure i'm missing something. I reviewd the docementation that i could find online, License Count, but i'm not clear on what i might be missing. I've installed the plug-in via the manage plug in wizard, created the agent count dashboard on the dt server, and created the monitor, however when i attmept to run it i get "Internal Plug-in Error", which is very generic. Any assistance with this would be great, please let me know if i can provide anymore information.

Dynatrace 6.2 provides new out-of-the-box self-monitoring measures. These measures tell you how many licenses are consumed per type (JAva, .NET ,...)
Windows counts licenses differently for .NET agents and webservers (i.e. .NET hosts vs. .NET agents deployed). Is the new functionality smart enough to give you actual number of licenses used against your real license count? For example, if I have 50 .NET agents deployed but they are on only 5 different hosts, will it tell me I have used 5 agents against my count? Thanks, Rob

Can anyone let me know, if there is any way we can find out how many licenses are left after consuming. I know it can be seen by checking dynatrace server—License, but i need to check in dashboard

Hi guys,
I haven't tested this out yet but it should be possible. All you would have to do is create the agent overview dashboard on all of your dT servers. Then, create a unique monitor for the 7+ dT servers on a single system profile using the license count plugin.
You should then be able to create dashboards and reports from that single profile showing license information from all your servers. Let me know if you run into any issues and I would be happy to help.
Thanks,
Mike

It looks as though the license count plug-in is geared more towards system profile. My group is the enterprise wide centralized dynaTrace hosting service and manage 7 dynaTrace infrastructures. I was hoping this tool was a way to run a report by server because we manage 1000’s of licenses and it’s very difficult to keep an inventory. Can one or both of you please comment on how to make this plug-in work at a dynaTrace instance/server level? For example………..
dT instance 1 – total licenses used, total agents not licensed, java agents, .net agents, .net hosts, etc.
This would be extremely helpful for our large implementation.
Thanks,
Rob Herring

Hi Tim,
I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with the license count plugin. Could you please send myself (michael.beemer@compuware.com) and shawn (shaun.gautz@compuware.com) an email containing as much detail as possible with your configuration? You're right about the error message being very generic, so we might have to hope on a quick webex to help resolve the issue.
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Tim,
On the executing collector there should be a log file for the plugin. Does that have any more detail? Another thing you can do is "checkout" the plugin in your client and Build/Test it in the Development interface, this will give you a full stacktrace for any errors occurring during runtime.
Hope that helps,
Rick B
