Usage of REST interface

Hi,

Can you please let me know why do we need the REST interface. and also will it have any impact on my dyanTrace monitoring if I turn off the this interface as shown below .

REST 1.jpg

I have gone through the REST interface document but could not figure out the usage of this interface as we can start/stop sessions , view dashboards etc directly thorugh dynaTrace client.

The reason I am asking is because, we have recieved some vulnerabilites on Port 8031 which is used by REST interface. I am planning to disable this interface if it does not affect the standard dynaTrace monitoring?

Thanks Roman.Could you please confirm that we can turn off the REST interface by unchecking the option mentioned in the image attached in my previous comment (RESR 1.jpg) or is there any other way to switch off the REST interface ?

It depends - the screenshot you attached would be for turning of the server REST interface on port 8020/8021. You wrote about port 8031 - that is the client REST interface. You have to turn this off on every computer where you installed the dynaTrace client. Go to Server - dynaTrace Client and uncheck it there:

Best, Roman

Hi Anurag,

The only reason why you would use the REST interfaces is automation. Yes, you can perform all those functions through the client but some of our customers prefer to have a session started automatically when the load test starts and stopped when it finishes.

The monitoring or better the data capture is not affected by turning this interface off.

Best, Roman
