Hi,
We are trying to install dynaTrace client 5.6 in our machine which is Windows 7 (64 bit). We couldn't find client with 64 bit version in Compuware site. We tried to install 32 bit version of client in the machine and we are getting the attached error message.
Can anyone help us on this? dynaTrace Client 5.6 install message.docx

Hi Ramya,
First thing: there is no 64-bit version of the v5.6 dynaTrace client, just a 32-bit client. It's perfectly OK to run the 32-bit client on Windows 7 (64-bit). FYI: as of v6.0 however there is a 64-bit version.
Second thing: the error message. Every time I've seen that, it's been because the download of the installer MSI got corrupted. Please try downloading again to see if that helps.

Hmmm. for me a new download always worked, so I've never had to troubleshoot this further than that. And the error message is not that helpful.
I just downloaded dynatrace-client-5.6.0.5802.msi and it was 112,077,312 bytes. It installs just fine. What do you have? Do you have local administrative rights on your machine to install software locally. I'm afraid I can't be much more help on this one. Either someone else will have to add their advice or you should talk with support.
Sorry,
Rob

Instead of downloading the client you can also try to use the WEb Start Client. Simply open a browser and open the website of your dynaTrace Server. The dynaTrace Server hosts a management Web Site on default port 8020. So - opening the browser on http://YOURSERVER:8020 should get you to the dT Server Web Site. From there you will find a link to launch the Web Start Client. It will install the client using Java Web Start Technology.

At the bottom of the downloads page there is an MD5 file that contains a listing of the MD5s for the downloads. You can use this to verify that the file downloaded correctly.
This is the line for the 5.6 Windows client:
acb23c17045f08e84a104f2b52e3bde3 *dynatrace-client-5.6.0.5802.msi
I would recommend using the Microsoft FCIV tool, if you don't already have some other tool for calculating an MD5.
Here is what I get when I run it on my machine:
c:\tools\fciv\fciv.exe "dynatrace-client-5.6.0.5802.msi"
//
// File Checksum Integrity Verifier version 2.05.
//
acb23c17045f08e84a104f2b52e3bde3 dynatrace-client-5.6.0.5802.msi
I just downloaded the 5.6 client, verified the MD5, and it installed fine for me, so I would check your MD5 and then troubleshoot other things like Rob mentioned (and of course the Web Start Client is another option, as Andi already mentioned).
HTH,
dave
