Hi Nalin

What exactly is it you are interested in?

dynaTrace's out-of-the-box capabilities provide you I/O information from your application (through the agent) as well as from any OS Instance (through OS Monitors). If you have a specific storage solution that provides performance relevant information you can simply create a monitor that pulls in data from that storage solution in case it exports metrics.

Hi

Is this capability available is the HOST agent to get these metrics. The customer is looking for getting SAN Performance / Availability information.

Additionally there is a open standard for SAN Monitoring using SMI-S Agents

http://snia.org/sites/default/files/SMI-S_Data_Collection.pdf

Vendors like HP have SMI-S Clients which can provide CLI interface.

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00595566/c00595566.pdf

Another route could be using a ssh session similar to what Nagios does.

Nagios has a script to check the SAN status http://exchange.nagios.org/directory/Plugins/Hardware/Storage-Systems/SAN-and-NAS/3PAR-check-script/details

Can we use a monitoring plugin to get these metrics?

Thanks
Rajesh

Rajesh,

as Andi already mentioned monitor plugins are the solution to pull in data like this, yes.

Hi,

This page has a nice description on how to develop a custom plugin to bring additional measures into the dynaTrace server.

Best, Roman

Did anyone answer you? I am looking for one as well, and if there is not one already, I'll start developing it myself.

Hi David. I am not aware of any netapp plugin. If you develop a netapp plugin please write an email to community@dynatrace.com so we can make the plugin available to everyone.

To get an overview of existing plugins for Dynatrace go to

https://community.dynatrace.com/community/display/DL/FastPacks+and+Plugins.

Or you can go to https://github.com/ and search for "dynatrace xxx"

Thanks Ingo,

I've started writing one, but since most NetApp measurements are accumulative, I'm using a local postgres database on the dynatrace collector to make calculations on metrics, so I'm hesitant to sharing the plugin on the current state, I'll keep working on it to better handle these calculations, without the need for a local database. Still, it works very well here!

Hi David.

It's really a long time ago since you posted this. Did you every make the plugin work without the local postgres database?
