Apache Web Server Documentation

Hi all,

Is there a documentation detail about what kind of matrix web server agent can provide for instrumenting Apache web server? From Dynatrace documentation, it seems like web server agent is more for UEM. If I were to instrument the Apache web server in my application without UEM, what sort of matrix can I expect from Dynatrace?

Thanks,

-Ronald

Hi Ronald,

If you instrument the web server agent without UEM you will start to see information travelling through this tier. This means that you will see the Web Request data as well as host metrics for the instrumented servers.

Kind Regards,

Jon

Thanks, Jon.

Can we also see how httpd being created? The reason behind this post is that we suspect Apache web server uses way too much memory than it is supposed to. We are trying to find the root costs. So, I wonder if instrumenting Apache web server helps.

Best regards,

Hi Ronald,

Yes, It would definitely be helpful. You will be able to see trends of GC, Memory usage to determine patterns. Additionally, by watching the web requests, you can use this information to determine irregularities in traffic levels and frequency of the various web requests.

Kind Regards,

Jon
