Moving Session storage data to another machine

Hi Team,

We want to use Session Storage data on another machine.
We have not exported data ,we have Session storage data only.
We copied session storage data from System and we want to use that data in another DT environment.

Please suggest.

Regards,
Jalpesh

Just to be clear I understand what you did

a) you stopped the dT Server

b) you copied the session directory from that dt Server to a different machine

c) now you want a second server to read that data but still want the original server to continue writing new data to the original location?

If that is the case you should be able to copy the content of the session directory to a different file location. When doing this it is probably best to shutdown the dT server that is currently still writing data to it. You then need a second dynaTrace server that will read that copied directory. I think you need to a) configure the session storage directory for that server through the dynaTrace Server Settings Dialog. What you also need, as we are talking about copying the continuous session storage - is to copy the system profiles to your second dT server as well as the system Profiles will show up in your Cockpit which give you access to the continuous session data on that directory

I havent tried this but I think this should work like described

Hi Andy,

We  want second server to read that past data only .

I have imported original System Profile in new machine.

But still it's not showing any data.

Please also find attached DT Server logs.

Try the following

a) Switch your Client into Debug Mode (Ctrl-Shift-F9)

b) Open your Session Browser

c) Verify if you see any of the Continuous Sessions listed

Hi Andy,

There is no Continuous Sessions listed in Session Browser.

Is there any file to be imported in new machine.

Please suggest.

Jalpesh

Jalpesh,

In the second server, have you:

  • set the "storage" path in the dynaTrace server settings to point to the directory you copied
  • restarted the second dynaTrace server?

Hi Rob,

We have set the "storage" path in the dynaTrace server settings to point to the directory .

And also restarted second dynatrace server.

Please suggest.

My suggestion is to open a support case then. These are the things I do all the time when copying session files, and what has been described by Andi and me should work.

hi Jalpesh,

just to make sure: you also kept the directory structure, right?

this means the configured directory contains sub-directories for the system profile(s), which also exist in the new server, right?

and the server also has the same version, right?

if so, then this should work, as described by Andy & Rob.

best, Christian

I don't see why this shouldn't work, during an upgrade we move the session files from old version folder to the new version folder. New version of dynatrace is just another installation(in our case only thing common was the underlying OS and hardware)and this has worked for us in all upgrades.

May be below RFE would help in avoiding coping of the session files to other server.

Option to specify different path for continuous session and store sessions.
