Third Party Documentation

Hello,

Does anyone know if there is "third party" documentation available for DCRUM 12.4? As with most computer products, a technical publisher will usually produce documentation that is more user friendly: Wiley; O'Reilly; Pearson; McGraw Hill; SAMS; etc. The installation Dynatrace documentation is painfully lacking (repeats itself; outdated; misspellings; missing information; TOO LONG (2000+ page pdf). Including error messages that a programmer at Dynatrace obviously wrote - BUT, the error cannot be found in their documentation, on the Interent, in the forums, or anywhere else operated by Dynatrace. The product is great. The documentation is not. And if it takes traversing the Internet looking for an answer to a simple question in order to proceed with an install, I might as well look a products that have better documentation, and provide 3rd party documentation, but have less functionality.

Case in point. Unless I have missed it, this error appears NO WHERE on Dynatrace's websites. Yes, I can open a ticket, BUT I should not have to. This issue has been resolved (opened a ticket), but I should not have to. Now a new error and a new ticket.

Again, if I am missing something, please let me know.

Compuware Ecoscope was never this difficult.

Up to 10 attachments (including images) can be used with a maximum of 50.0 MiB each and 250.0 MiB total.

Genesius, we're writing the installation doc from scratch, it will be availbale in the next release. It's much more concise, problem focused and easier to use. We're not able to document every single error message, we're tackling those most users experienced. Which particular error message was it?

With all due respect, the error was written by a programmer. Therefore, they KNOW why the error is being generated. Therefore, the errors can and should be documented.

The first error was "Incorrect CSS version". It was suggested reinstall if I was in a rush; otherwise, upload several logs for troubleshooting.

The second error is "Incorrect Database Connection Properties". Solution? Unable to communicate with the SQL server. Interesting because I am using the same credentials and TCP ports used to install CSS database.

I am not suggesting add errors as part of the documentation pdf file, though other software and hardware vendors do this. I am suggesting creating a webpage on the Dynatrace website listing the error, its cause, and how to resolve it. Other IT companies offer this, but sadly, not enough do. This would greatly reduce the need to contact support, as well as reduce the frustration level of your customers.

This would also insure retention of customers. As new products enter the marketplace, a product which offers ease in installation and troubleshooting will eventually overtake one where those aspects are lacking, though the older product might offer more functionality.

I have a case opened where the tech is contacting the doc team to correct at least one missing TCP port.

It is good to know that the overall installation documentation is being re-written from scratch. It can't happen soon enough.

The ports are fixed.

In the new doc, we also highlight the need to verify the connectivity as a step in planning the installation.

As for the warning message you mentioned - this should be a self-explanatory error message, the problem is apparently elsewhere - I guess the wording does not precisely describe the condition. We'll look into this as well. Thanks for your feedback!

When you state "The ports are fixed", do you mean in the online documentation TCP ports 4182 and 4183 are both indicated?
