SQL Page/Row Compression for CAS/ADS

I've been asked if enabling SQL Server compression on CAS/ADS databases is supported. I can only think of one possible problem, is that the CAS/ADS repeatedly refresh their tables daily, which would mean any compression attributes would be lost as the tables are recreated - unless the CAS/ADS has a configuration option to enable to ensure the tables are re-created with the attribute set.

Hi, a quick update on this. NAM Server SQL database compression is one of the built-in features in the upcoming NAM 2019 release, which is now in BETA stage. See what else is coming in NAM 2019 and if you're interested in sing-up for BETA to give it a try now.

It depends on which tables would you like to compress. Some of them are recreated, some truncated and some maintained by a simple delete statement.

I see one more concern. The compression feature is only available for non-standard SQL server editions and it has not been tested. If compression attribute remains for the table after 97 days this table will be reused for inserting. My concern is the impact of the compression on the data inserting.

Thanks Robert, customers DBA is asking if it can be enabled or not, they intend to have it on 'live' tables. Apparently there is plenty of spare CPU cycles, and the end game is to reduce the usage of their SSD storage.

Well, in theory there should be no problems with enabling it but again it was not tested.

Just a quick update with a current status - DB compression for CAS/ADS has not been assessed in the lab yet.
