External Data documentation regarding Enterprise synthetic does not seem to work.

I have been trying to follow the example shown in this External Data documentation link

e.g have taken the example shown and changed the following fields as shown at the end.

For example, I changed the StartTime string, added a new epoch time integer that matches StartTime for StartTimeUTC and generated new GUID's for the Transaction GUID. Nothing seems to work, all that happens is the file gets transferred to a ProblemFile folder in the SQF directory.

I have even connected an Agent and tried to modify the files it places in the SQF directory. These files do not get placed in the ProblemFile folder but the new data never makes it to the CAS...

It looks like the documentation is incomplete...

Has anyone managed to get this working?

"In the file name:

  • HHMMSSSSS
  • YYYYMMDD
  • UTCinteger
  • GUIDxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx (Transaction GUID. A GUID is a unique reference number used as an identifier)

In the transaction metric file:

  • StartTime
  • StartTime UTC
  • ElapsedTime
  • Transaction GUID

Thanks Carol for the input. I will open up a support call. Here is a copy of the example file with the StartTime, StartTimeUTC and GUID modified.. I also updated the Version as well after the initial example with the older version did not work. The filename was "CPM_TR_EXTERNALAgent_D20170118_T175711673.xmf" e.g date/time in name matching the StartTime etc... Since the docs says the screenshot file is optional, I did not include it.

I used "https://www.guidgenerator.com/online-guid-generator.aspx"; to generate the transaction GUID's and "http://www.epochconverter.com/"; to generate the StartTimeUTC epoch time integer for a quick test. When this file is place in the SQF dir, after a few seconds it gets transferred to the ProblemFile dir!!! Using the latest SP5 verson of ES, 12.04.05.0380...

Thanks for your inquiry on this process. I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble with this. Yes, people have been able to use this approach for external data.

What version of Enterprise Synthetic are you using? Please open a support ticket and attach one of your problem files, one of your successful files from an Agent and the support information from the Agent Manager. We will ascertain whether there was a mistake in your file or if, perhaps, the documentation or the product needs to be updated.

Thanks Carol, for your help in that it does indeed work!! The XML file I created opened fine in notepad++ with no errors in XML, yet it would not open in IE... Very strange...Its interesting to see ExternalApp data is finding its was into the "Applications,transactions and tier data" datasource!!! and not in the Synthetic datasource that the ES Agent data is being put into...

Any way I can live with that... The next big question is there a mapping table showing how the ES metrics map to the CAS metrics...??? As per your suggestion I will ask the CAS support this one...
