Agent Recorder licensing

Hi,

We're investigating the possibility of putting together an Agent installation package that could be installed by 3rd parties (with no knowledge of Enterprise Synthetic). The idea is that they wouldn't need to touch the Agent Recorder at all, just install the Agent software and then all the script customization and testing is done at a master scripting Agent.

Just to make sure I've understood what's said here correctly:

https://community.dynatrace.com/community/display/...

"Note that the Agent does not use licensing in run time. The license check is performed in the Console on the Agent Manager machine. You also need a licence to open the Agent Recorder."

-> So I don't need to enable the Agent Recorder's licensing (connecting to port 7188 @ Agent Manager) if I don't plan to run the Recorder at any point? And as long as the Agent Manager's licensing is in place, I can schedule monitoring for an Agent that doesn't have the Recorder license set up?

Yes, Kalle, that is correct.

You need the license if you want to edit scripts, but not if use the Agent just for running scripts.

Kalle, I did edit the documentation for Licensing Enterprise Synthetic Components slightly; hopefully that will help clarify this in the future. It now reads "...You also need a license to open the Agent Recorder GUI." Thanks.
