Access to Cassandra DB in Dynatrace Cluster

sandre
Guide

Hi Dynatracers!

Currently we are making documents that have been provided by our customers, one of the points is about the database structure used by Dynatrace and the file that must be backed up if an error occurs in the database.

What I know so far is that Dynatrace cannot provide information about their database structure and to do backups we can do it using CMC.

My question is:

  1. Is it possible to access Cassandra DB in Dynatrace Managed?
  2. If that is not possible, is there a document that states that Dynatrace cannot provide information about the structure of the database and cannot perform backups from the Cassandra side? We need it as a reference for our documents.

Really appreciate all the help.

Cheers,

Andre

In Dynatrace Managed, data Is stored on customers premises. It means data belongs to customer, obviously. As a consequence they have an access to all data there - transaction storage, Cassandra and Elasticsearch.

Backups that are triggered from the cluster also include Cassandra database backup.

We do not write we do not provide DB schema. Why would we? Same as we do not share our source code...

Hi Radoslaw,

Thank you for the information, I appreciate it.

So we can access Cassandra using management tools like NoSQL Manager and do manual backups?

We understand that it is a company secret, we only need an official statement from Dynatrace because our customers ask to put the references in our documents.

Thanks 🙂

Yes, you can use e.g csql - but only from the cluster node - due to network security. But.. even if you make some backups, we do not support nor assist with restoring data from backup created custom way. I really advise to stick to our backup procedures.

I'm not sure if that makes sense to put into the documentation.

Alright then, thank you for the help.
